PPC management is the study of how NOT to spend your budget. People often think PPC management is all about how to spend. Once a PPC manager has mastered the basic skills of setting up a campaign so that Google or MSN accepts it to be relatively efficient and optimized, the PPC management begins.

How do most PPC Management companies operate

The next step in PPC management is to begin identifying potential inefficiencies in the process, from ad creative (the little display ad that shows on the page) to the landing page through the process all the way to a sale. Here's the part where recent college graduate working at a firm might cost you a lot of money. Sure the junior level PPC manager understands the computer. She understands Google AdWords or Facebook, or MSN. Does she understand business? Probably not. Does she understand that the location of your store or company might have an effect on the client base? Possibly. Does she care? Sorta. Does she have an advanced understanding of what makes a business successful, like avoiding product cannibalism, creating cross-marketing opportunities, developing residual income streams, and optimizing batch flow of workload? Umm, well maybe you should ask her.

Odds are you won't get a chance to ask that junior level PPC manager much at all frankly. The sales person at the PPC management company gets your call, makes sure he gets his commission by insisting that you should start small and then spend a fortune on your PPC campaign after he's locked in the sale. The junior manager that's assigned to your PPC campaign? Yeah, she's still not really caring about your company all that much. She probably CAN tell you what she plans on doing this weekend after 5p Friday, however. So who, then, cares about your actual success? Well, that's likely the owner of the PPC mangement company, because HE understands business and he cares about your PPC campaign because that's HIS business. So... when does he get in the picture? Uhhhh...
